Editors’ pick For its atmosphere and the building itself – coffee inside a 15th-century defensive tower.

Ratuszowa 1, 78-100 Kołobrzeg, Centrum

Closed now today: 11:00-23:00

A café and restaurant in the Executioner’s House (Domek Kata), a 15th-century tower on ulica Ratuszowa and one of the few buildings that survived the destruction of the town in 1945. Thick walls, vaulted ceilings and wooden stairs do half the work; the other half is the location in the heart of the old town, steps from the town hall and the cathedral.

Day to day it runs as a restaurant with European cooking, but you can sit down for coffee, cake or dessert without ordering lunch. Its 4.6 rating from over four thousand guests is among the highest in town at that volume of reviews. There is a garden, a vegetarian menu and room for children.

The coffee comes from the local Colbergcoffee roastery, and the cakes and desserts are homemade. The venue works all year, Monday to Saturday until 23:00, the longest of any café in the Old Town.
